Waterproofing Work in the Middle of an Active Hospital
Adding five floors to an existing children’s hospital is complicated enough. Doing it while the hospital remains operational adds another level of coordination. N&S was involved throughout the multi-year project, providing critical building-envelope services from early construction through final closeout.
The scope included installation of the air barrier, interior and exterior facade caulking, expansion joints, and cavity wallboard insulation. Because the project involved building on top of an active hospital, the team had to adapt its approach in real time. Crews accessed portions of the building from the roof using swing stages, rather than working from the ground. Air-barrier installation was scheduled around changing weather conditions and emergency helicopter activity surrounding the hospital.
The project is a strong example of the coordination, flexibility, and field expertise required for waterproofing work in an active, highly complex facility like a modern hospital.
