Thirteen years ago, Paul Beels started at N&S in the field. Today, he oversees company field operations as Operations Manager.
He started in the field and quickly moved into a foreman role. From there, he became a superintendent before advancing to Operations Manager. Along the way, he learned firsthand what it takes to keep a project moving and what crews require to do their best work.
That path reflects how N&S believes people should grow: Learn the trade, take on more responsibility, and keep getting better. Paul has done all three.
“Working in each of these roles has given me firsthand knowledge of what our crews need to succeed,” Paul says.
Today, much of his work happens before a crew ever arrives on a jobsite. Paul works with superintendents, foremen, general contractors, and building owners to get projects started properly and keep them running smoothly through completion.
That means managing personnel, coordinating materials and equipment, addressing problems as they emerge, and looking ahead in the project timeline to ensure the right people and resources are in place.
He also helps ensure N&S crews receive the training they need to work safely and meet OSHA requirements and industry standards.
It’s a role that requires field experience, but also a strong understanding of how the different pieces of a project fit together.
Learning the Trade. Learning to Lead.
One of the things Paul appreciates most about N&S is the opportunity to learn more than one aspect of the trade. In his role as General Superintendent, he helped establish a part of N&S’s culture that believes trade mastery isn’t about knowing how to install a system; it’s about understanding why the work is done a certain way, and knowing how to spot and respond to problems when they happen.
“The more you understand the work, the better prepared you are to solve problems and deliver quality results,” he says.
That approach has shaped the way Paul leads. His experience has taught him that proper planning and clear communication can make a difference on a project. Crews need the right information, materials, equipment, and training to deliver quality work.
His vast knowledge and experience in the field are extremely valuable for setting a project up for success before the work begins.
A Career Built Around Nashville’s Landmarks
Over the past 13 years, Paul has had the opportunity to work on some of Nashville’s most recognizable buildings, from the AT&T “Batman Building” to the new Nissan Stadium.
It’s difficult for him to choose just one favorite project, but some of Paul’s favorites are the ones that breathe new life into older buildings. One project that stands out is Midtown Millworks, where N&S performed a complete restoration of the building’s exterior masonry.
“There’s something especially rewarding about preserving a building’s character and being part of its next chapter,” Paul says.
That sense of pride is part of what makes the work meaningful for him. The projects may be different, but they all contribute to the buildings and places that make Nashville what it is.
Good People Doing Great Work
After 13 years, the relationships Paul has built at N&S are a big part of what keeps him here. He describes the crew as hardworking, proud of what they do, and willing to help one another develop their skills.
“If you’re willing to show up, work hard, and learn, there’s a real opportunity to grow here,” he says.
He also values being part of a company where he feels supported and knows his contributions matter. “My time at N&S has challenged me to keep getting better and given me a real sense of pride in what we accomplish as a team,” Paul says.
We’re proud to have Paul leading the way and grateful for all he brings to the N&S team.
